John Robert Hubsky

John Robert Hubsky passed away peacefully on January 7. 2023, surrounded by family, at the age of 73. He was born on September 13, 1949, son of John and Betty Jean (Gebbink) Hubsky, in Wyandotte, Michigan. John attended Michigan State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1971.After graduation, he worked for the State of Michigan-Employment Services as an employment counselor. It was in that job that he met his wife.  John married Darlene Ruth (Swartz) Hubsky on January 22, 1977.  They lived in Saginaw, Michigan and went on to have a son (John Michael) and daughter (Elizabeth Jean).

John loved his work of helping people choose a career and finding employment. Even after he retired in 2002 from the State of Michigan, he continued to work for a variety of Michigan Works Agencies in the Saginaw, Bay City, and Midland areas. He made many life-long friends through work and loved sharing stories from times at all his different vocations.  John was a collector of many things and enjoyed attending auctions, antique stores, and flea markets to find treasures.  He was a musician, often playing guitar into the early morning hours, listening to a wide variety of genres, and writing his own melodies and lyrics. John also spent a lot of time reading, playing cards, watching old sci-fi movies and sightseeing.  Above all, John loved his family. John and Darlene moved to Hartford, Wisconsin in 2018 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  Nothing made him prouder than talking about his kids and their accomplishments, and nothing made hi happier than attending sports events, playing chess and storytelling while watching his grandchildren grow up.

John is survived by his wife, Darlene, his children-John (Holly) Hubsky and Elizabeth (William) Dahlgren, grandchildren; Alison and Andrew Hubsky and Zoey and Wyatt Dahlgren, his sister, Janet Riggs.  John is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Betty Jean Hubsky, and brother-in-law Peter Wilford.
